Active Adventure Tour
MARCH 8-16
9 days / 8 nights

$775  (includes $150 charitable donation)

Dear Active Adventure Seekers:
The response received on the tours planned for Guatemala in past years has prompted us to add another for 2012. It's very similar, but with ACTIVE ADVENTURE planned for many of the days we will be touring the highlands. Volcano climbs to Pacaya, hikes around Lake Atitlan, a hike from Casa del Mundo to Solola, and a few more choices will make our visit during this very special time extremely memorable. Viewing the religious processions in Antigua will be another highlight, of course.

Active Tour Highlights include:

The Active tour begins in the colonial city of Antigua, a Unesco World Heritage Site. After climbing an active volcano and viewing a procession on Sunday, we travel to Lake Atitlan, spending three days hiking and visiting the villages surrounding the lake shore. On our return to Antigua, we visit Chichicastanango,  Central America's most unique indigenous market.

Many of our experiences will be off the typical tour paths. We will travel by foot, pick up truck, tuk-tuk,  luxury bus and boat, learning about Mayan village culture and traditions.

LODGING and HIGHLIGHTS:

---Four nights at Posada Los Bucaros, (hotelbucaros.com), in Antigua.
---Three nights on Lake Atitlan, at "the most magical hotel in Guatemala", (according to the Lonely Planet guidebook), Casa del Mundo, (lacasadelmundo.com). My favorite "best rooms at the inn" have been booked and confirmed. We have three days to hike visit the lakeside villages, shop in Panajachel or just relax at this wonderful inn.
---One night at Hotel Kakchiquel (panajachel.com/hotelkakchiquel.htm) in Panajachel, on the shores of  Lake Atitlan.
--- The Sunday procession in Antigua, and the viewing of the beautiful carpets created from sawdust promises to be a highlight on this adventure.
